A: Do you know how many people worldwide have long COVID?

Bx: I thought that was over.

A: Four hundred million.

Bx: That can't be right.

A: The virus hides in your gut lining, your lymph nodes, your bone marrow. Tissue biopsies have confirmed it. It sits there and trickles viral proteins into the bloodstream. Your immune system never stands down.

Bx: They figured that out?

A: German researchers identified the specific immune cells involved. Other teams found microclots — tiny fibrin clots that don't dissolve. They starve tissues of oxygen. That's the brain fog. That's the fatigue that never lifts.

Bx: So there's a biological explanation now.

A: Several. And the U.S. had the biggest research program in the world trying to turn those explanations into treatments. RECOVER. Forty-five pathobiology studies. Data already collected. Kids already enrolled and tested.

Bx: Had?

A: In March 2025, the NIH terminated the grants. All forty-five. No rationale given. Most of the studies had finished collecting data. They needed only to analyze it and publish.

Bx: ...

A: A pediatric researcher at Columbia had two studies on teenagers with exercise intolerance. He'd already enrolled the kids. Already run the tests. He said he was trying to find answers for all these kids and their parents. He may not be allowed to do the statistics on data he already has.

Bx: Why?

A: HHS said the pandemic is over and they would no longer waste taxpayer dollars on a "non-existent pandemic." They closed the Office for Long COVID Research. Pulled funding from antiviral programs, state health departments, the works.

Bx: On the four hundred million people.

A: On the four hundred million people.

Bx: So nobody's working on it.

A: Germany is. In December 2025, the German government committed half a billion euros to a National Decade Against Post-Infectious Diseases. Ten years of funding. The science didn't stop.

Bx: The American share of it did.

A: Yes.

Bx: The data from the forty-five studies. Where is it?

A: On a server somewhere. Already paid for.
